Your questions answered by Dr. Morris:
Q: Why does it seem more people get sick during the months of Sept.-Nov.?
A: Ah yes, “flu season” as the media likes to call it is upon us. The general population sees a spike in illness around this time period because immune systems are weakened. This is a direct result of decreased sun exposure (less vitamin D intake), decreased water intake, spiked stress levels, and decreased amount of sleep. Continue reading our newsletter for great, natural ways to combat this!
Q: I’ve been told I should take my child in for a chiropractic visit but I’m skeptical, can you explain some benefits of childhood chiropractic care?
A: Yes! First of all, we love our pediatric patients here at EPIC Chiropractic. I believe childhood chiropractic care is crucial. These are the developing years of their bodies. Chiropractic can facilitate the body in the growth process and help maintain optimum function as a child’s nervous system and musculoskeletal system develops. Also, we have seen great results with children suffering from colic, bed wetting, insomnia, and recurring ear infections.
Your Immune System quickly explained:
Your immune system is intricate, complex, and amazing all in one. It is responsible for protecting your body from bacteria, parasites, viruses, etc. It does this by recognizing these threats to your body, separating the good and bad bacteria, and eliminating anything that may be detrimental to your health. Is it perfect? No, but it is important to keep it as strong and healthy as possible so it can work at its best day in and day out. Below, you will see what we call “nature’s flu shots”. This is a great suggested mixture of whole foods that are nutrient rich. They will give your immune system a natural boost the next time you may start to feel under the weather! Also below, we dive into a few quick tips on natural ways to boost your immune system. Stay healthy and live EPIC!
Quick Tips to boost your immune system:
Routine Chiropractic Adjustments. Studies have proven that eliminating the spine/body of subluxations, it allows for an optimally functioning nervous system. This directly relates to a more proficient immune system and better defense system for your body!
Get a sufficient amount of restful sleep. This can be a tough one with work deadlines, kids, or everyday busy schedules; but I assure you that taking care of your body and giving it time to refuel and repair through restful sleep, you will be more productive, energetic, and in a better mood during your awake hours.
Exercise. Setting aside time to exercise is important to keeping your immune system strong. Whether you go to the gym, play a sport, or just take the dog for a walk; this gives your mind and body time to escape the everyday stresses of life. This is important to increase circulation, improve health and fitness, and naturally keep our immune system strong!
Take a multivitamin and drink enough water. These two are huge in keeping our immune system in check. I recommend that everyone take a multivitamin. The way most of our food is prepped, processed, and prepared, it depleats a lot of crucial nutrients and vitamins from it. As with all our body’s systems, our immune system is fed by these nutrients and vitamins. A multivitamin helps supplement our daily nutritional needs that we are not getting from our food. I recommend Standard Process vitamins we sell here at the office because they are derived directly from whole foods vs. being synthesized like many store brands. Also, as I always seem to mention, drink enough water. The recommended goal intake is half your body weight in ounces a day.
